Sculpture or woodworking? I suppose
the latter would be the more appropriate, but it's such a general term lacking
in artistic connotation. Here are a few of the many pieces I have made over
the years.
I
call this an executive desk toy. So mesmerized was I by seeing the effect in
motion while making the lamps that I decided to think of a way to display it.
This
is the mountain-scape valance in our bedroom. The accents at the ends are designed
to complement the lampshades. Be sure to click on the image to see the details.
My
chess set was constructed from oak, black walnut and maple. I made the beads,
dowels, bases and of course the board.
The
sideboard in our dining room. Its top is a piece of bowling lane and the doors
are from my wife's fire damaged china cabinet.
Above
and below are lamps made using a process called "segmented turning."
This simply means gluing a bunch of pieces of wood together and shaping it on
a lathe. What I've done that is unique is to orient each block of wood so that
the final product always looks darker on one side than the other -- when viewed
from any angle or lighting.
